Letters From Iwo Jima

This film is beautiful and horrifying—the DVD extras are excellent, too, only adding to my respect for Clint Eastwood as a director. Real life superstar of a Japanese boy band, Kazunari Ninomiya endures every sad moment on Iwo Jima in such a way that you just have to watch.

Hey Alison! This one is on our list as well. Did you watch Flags of Our Fathers first?

I have to be in the right frame of mind, though (if there is such a thing).

Yes, we watched Flags of Our Fathers a few months ago, and felt under-thrilled, but I knew the critics favored Letters from Iwo Jima and it's easy to see why. You're right—there's no right frame of mind to watching war movies—not for me anyway, but this one is worth every gut-wrenching frame.

I admire everything Clint Eastwood does, but find it hard to watch movies on WWII or any war movies - but I'll definitely give it a try.
